How we quote for a redesign
Every redesign is quoted after we have looked at your current site. This page explains what goes into the number, how payments work and what happens if the scope changes.
Short answer
You get a fixed quote in NZD after a short, free review of your live site and goals, before any work starts or any deposit is paid. It lists each part of the work, states whether GST is included and splits payment into stages tied to things you can check. Changes outside the written scope are quoted before they are done.
Why there is no price list
Page count alone says little about effort. Picture two ten-page sites. The first might have tidy, current content and a simple contact form. The second might have years of outdated pages, three booking tools and a theme that fights every change. A price list would either overcharge the first or undercharge the second and then surprise them with extras.
So we look first, then quote. For figures that other New Zealand web firms publish, see our separate website redesign cost guide. This page is about how our own quotes work.
What affects the quote
These are the things that move the number most:
- Number of page types. Ten service pages that share a layout cost less than ten pages that each need their own design.
- Content work. Reusing existing text is cheaper than rewriting it. New writing is quoted as its own line.
- Migration size. A site with forty addresses needs a smaller redirect map than one with four thousand products.
- Features and integrations. Booking systems, online payments, member areas and connections to other software all add work.
- Platform. Staying on your current platform is usually cheaper than moving.
- Accessibility fixes. We check what we build against WCAG 2.2 at level AA. Fixing problems in content we are not otherwise changing is quoted separately.
What the quote looks like
The quote is a short document, not a single figure. It lists:
- Each part of the work, such as audit, design, build, migration and launch, with its own price
- What is included in each part, in plain words
- What is not included
- Whether prices include or exclude GST, stated next to the total
- The payment stages
- How long the quote is valid for
- How changes are handled
The total is fixed for the scope described. If we underestimate, that is our problem, not yours.
Payment stages
We split payment into stages, each tied to something you can see and check:
| Stage | When it is due | What you have at that point |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit | On accepting the quote | A booked start date |
| Plan approved | When you approve the written plan (Stage 2) | Audit, page list and redirect map |
| Designs approved | When you approve the page designs | Designs for each key page type |
| Launch | When the site goes live | The live site and handover notes |
Small projects may have fewer stages. The exact split is written in the quote.
Changes to the scope
Plans change, and that is fine. If you ask for something outside the written scope, we tell you whether it affects the price or timeline before doing it, and only go ahead once you agree in writing. Small adjustments that do not add real work are not charged.
We do not use vague phrases such as "minor revisions included" without saying how many and what they cover. The quote says exactly how many rounds of design feedback are included.
What is not included
Unless the quote says otherwise, these are not included:
- Hosting fees, domain registration and email accounts, which you pay to your providers directly
- Licences for paid themes, plugins, fonts or stock images, which are listed with their costs
- Ongoing maintenance after the post-launch checks
- Paid advertising or social media management
We will point out any of these that your project needs so there are no surprises later.
Our terms in brief
Our terms set out the full agreement. A few points matter here. The Consumer Guarantees Act covers services usually acquired for personal or household use1, so it will not apply to every redesign. Where the CGA applies and we provide services to a business, it can only be excluded in writing, between businesses, and where it is fair and reasonable to do so1. Our terms do not try to exclude it. Standard form small trade contracts, meaning business contracts in a trading relationship worth up to $250,000 over any 12 months, are also covered by the unfair contract terms rules, which the Commerce Commission enforces2. We aim to keep our terms balanced and readable.
Getting a quote
Send us your website address and a few lines about what is not working, or use the redesign planner and attach the brief it produces. We review the site, ask any questions and send a written quote. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation to go ahead.
Quoting questions
Do you charge for the quote?
No. The quote is free and there is no obligation. If a project needs a detailed paid audit before it can be quoted, for example a very large store, we say so and price the audit on its own.
Can I pay monthly?
The stages above spread payment across the project. We do not offer finance or long-term payment plans.
Do you quote in NZD and charge GST?
All quotes are in NZD, and each quote states clearly whether GST is included in the figures shown.
What if the project takes longer than planned?
If the delay is ours, the price does not change. If it comes from changes in scope or delayed feedback, we discuss it with you before any extra cost arises.
