Website redesign planner
Answer the questions you can, press the button and download a plain text brief. Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to Repagevia or anyone else.
Build your brief
JavaScript is off, so the brief builder is hidden. Here are the same sixteen questions as a list you can print or copy into an email to hello@repagevia.site.
- Business name and website address
- What does your business do, in one or two sentences?
- Who are the main people you want the website to serve?
- What is wrong with the current site?
- What should a visitor do on the site?
- Which pages bring in the most visitors or enquiries today?
- Which pages or features must not break during the redesign?
- What platform is the site on now?
- What should the new site include?
- Three websites you like, and what you like about them
- Do you have a logo, brand colours or a style guide?
- Who will write or update the words?
- Any accessibility needs you already know about?
- Budget range in NZD, if you have one
- Ideal launch window, and any fixed dates
- Anything else a designer should know?
What the brief is for
A redesign brief is a short document that tells a designer what your business does, what the current site gets wrong, what the new one needs to do and what must not break. A good brief makes quotes easier to compare, because every designer is pricing the same thing. It also saves time in the first meeting, since the basics are already written down.
The planner asks the questions that matter most at the start. You do not need to answer all of them. Leave a question blank if you are not sure, and the brief will say "Not answered yet" so the designer knows to ask.
How to get the most from it
Be specific about problems
"The site looks old" is a start, but it does not tell a designer much. "Customers say they cannot find our prices on a phone" or "We get calls asking whether we cover Hamilton" point straight to fixes. Tick the boxes that apply, then add details in the notes questions.
Name the pages that matter
Question six asks which pages bring in the most visitors or enquiries. If you have Google Analytics or Search Console, the answer is in there. If not, think about which pages customers mention, or which ones you send links to most often. These pages need the most care during a redesign.
List what must not break
Question seven is the one people most often skip, and the one that prevents the most problems. Think about online booking, payment links, a members' area, a newsletter sign-up, links printed on vehicles or brochures, and any page a supplier or partner links to.
Be honest about budget and timing
A budget range helps a designer suggest what is realistic. If you have no idea what to expect, our cost guide shows the ranges some New Zealand web firms publish. If you have a fixed date, such as a product launch or a busy season, say so.
Privacy
The planner runs entirely in your browser. When you press "Build my brief", the page assembles your answers into text on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and we cannot see what you typed. If you close the page without downloading or copying the brief, the answers are gone.
Please do not enter passwords, logins or card numbers. If an answer looks like a card number or a password line, the planner will not build the brief until you remove it. It is safer not to type them in the first place.
What to do with the brief
Send it to any designer or agency you are considering, including us. If you would like Repagevia to quote, email the brief to hello@repagevia.site or paste it into the contact form. We will review your site and reply with questions or a quote.
If your redesign will change page addresses, the migration checklist is a good next step. It covers what to record before you start and what to check after launch.
Planner questions
Is the planner really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no email address required and no charge. You can use it as many times as you like.
Can I save my answers and come back later?
The planner does not store answers, so they are lost if you close the page. Download or copy the brief when you finish, and you can edit the text file later.
Does the brief commit me to anything?
No. It is a document for you to use however you like, with us or with anyone else.
Ready to plan your redesign?
Tell us what your current site does well and what holds it back. You get a written, fixed quote in NZD before any work starts.
